Within the week before your settlement, you’ll need to contact the utilities companies to have service transferred into your name when buying a home or out of your name when selling your home. When you contact the companies, you’ll request that the utilities be transferred as of your settlement date.
Note for Sellers: The only option may be to cancel service as of your settlement date. If canceling service is the only option, choose that option and the utilities will be transferred when the buyers contact the companies.
