My daughter and I have been making the rounds at local breakfast spots in Roxborough and Manayunk and one of our favorites is Taylor’s Cafe on Ridge Avenue. Though we’ve been a number of times I never got around to writing about Taylor’s, why we love it, and why you should check it out if you haven’t been yet. Taylor’s has been a mainstay on Ridge Avenue since it opened in 1960. The cafe has been under a number of owners since then. In 2011, the space was bought by Jay and Si Soon. The restaurant closed for three months for a complete overhaul. The cafe is now a bright and contemporary space with a diverse menu of diner classics and contemporary brunch fare.
Today’s visit was an extra special one. My daughter, now 4, just became a big sister for the first time this past week. We’ve been busy getting the house ready for the new arrival and we’ve been busy with the holidays. Of course, in the middle of the holidays my wife and I were away at the hospital (where she gave birth to our second daughter). With all of that, my older daughter and I haven’t had much time together so it was time to go somewhere special, just the two of us. She chose breakfast at Taylor’s.
One of the first things that I noticed the first time that I walking into Taylor’s is how bright and open the restaurant is. It’s bright, contemporary and modern but very comfortable. There’s counter seating near the front, a dining room in the back, and a secluded outdoor patio which is my favorite spot when the weather gets warmer.
The staff at Taylor’s is extremely friendly and warm. As far as I can tell, it’s mostly the same staff that was there a year ago when we started going regularly and they all seem happy to be there. You can tell that many of them know their regular customers.
Taylor’s Cafe Menu
The breakfast menu at Taylor’s Cafe has all of the usual cafe offerings that you’d expect like egg platters, pancakes, and waffles plus they have a variety of more contemporary breakfast and brunch options like their Salmon Scramble, Double Breakfast Burrito, and Green Egg (one of my personal favorites). On this visit, my daughter chose the Minnie Mouse Pancakes and I had two eggs with sausage, bacon, home fries, and an English muffin. The pancakes are always nice and fluffy and the sausage is some of the best around. The home fries are piled high and come with onion and optional green peppers. Taylor’s serves La Colombe Coffee and also makes their own fresh squeezed orange juice, both are amazing.

Parking Near Taylor’s Cafe
Taylor’s Cafe is located on Ridge Avenue in Central Roxborough. There’s a parking lot on nearby Dupont Street so it’s pretty easy to get there and get in. Our visit was on a Sunday morning but we were able to get seats at the counter pretty much right away. A few people were waiting for tables but it wasn’t a long wait even on a busy weekend morning.
